Protein smoothies are quick, easy, and a great way to get in a lot of nutrition all at one time. I have had so much practice with different combinations that I have perfected getting in all the nutrients without sacrificing taste!
This is one of my go-to smoothies any time of year. Each ingredient has benefits to support your body, energy, and metabolism. No more mid-morning crashes where you are searching for caffeine or a candy bar. I like to make this smoothie for breakfast and you can really make it any time of day.
Ingredient Health Benefits
Blueberries. These little berries are HIGH in nutrients and low in calories. Blueberries are packed with antioxidants that protect your body from free radicals. Free radicals are unstable molecules that can damage your cells and contribute to aging and disease. They are also known to reduce DNA damage which may help protect against aging and cancer. Blueberries also protect cholesterol in your blood from becoming damaged, may lower blood pressure, and help prevent heart disease.
Bananas. Frozen banana helps to give your protein smoothie a smooth thick texture. They are also a good source of vitamin B6, vitamin C, manganese, and potassium. Bananas can also aid in digestion.
Almond Butter. This gives you a dose of healthy fat to keep you full for hours. Almond butter has a good balance of monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats which help decrease instances of cardiovascular disease by helping to lower blood pressure and cholesterol. Be sure your almond butter doesn’t have sugar added.
Maca powder. Maca has many health benefits. They include: increases libido, improves mood, balances hormones, and boosts energy.
Golden ground flaxseed. They are a good source of many nutrients. Flax seeds benefits are mainly due to their content of omega-3 fats, lignans and fiber. Omega 3 fats have heart health benefits linked to a lower risk of stroke and lignans may reduce cancer risk. Flax seeds are also rich in dietary fiber. Store your flaxseed in the refrigerator to keep it fresh longer and prevent oxidation.
Cacao powder. It is rich in polyphenols that provide several health benefits including reduced inflammation, better blood flow, lower blood pressure, and improved cholesterol and blood sugar levels.
Spinach. This leafy green is high in insoluble fiber which may benefit your digestion. Spinach is an extremely nutrient-rich vegetable. It packs high amounts of carotenoids, vitamin C, vitamin K, folic acid, iron, and calcium.
