Today’s post, Body Transformation Lessons – Part 2, is a continuation of my last post, 4 Body Transformation Lessons I learned in my 40’s, if you missed that, check it out first then come back to this one.
I closed that post posing a question to you, do you know why 95% of people fail in their own body transformation process?
The Don’t Trust the Process
Oh, if I had a dollar for every person who hired my team and me to help with their body transformation only to bail early because things weren’t happening “fast enough.”
I’ve seen this in fitness for the last 25 years.
I’ve seen it with business coaching clients for the last 10.
How many times have you quit because results weren’t happening fast enough or big enough?
It takes time!
And, it’s usually not the same for everyone.
I’ve seen hundreds of people lose 20 pounds in 6 weeks.
I’ve seen WAY TOO MANY give up at 6 weeks because they didn’t…
Oh, but if they only kept going for a few more weeks…like those who did trust the process.
And, hell, what if it took 6 months?
So what?
Isn’t the goal (in this case) to lose 20 pounds?
Trust the process (a proven one) and the results will come. More on that with Step 4.
By the way, my fellow business owners know this all too well. It’s “shiny object syndrome.”
Instead of sticking with the proven methods (often basic and not sexy) they quickly get bored and/or frustrated with slow progress so they get lured into the latest fad…
Lesson 3: Progress Not Perfection
How many times has perfection stopped you from achieving the body transformation (or any transformation) you want?
I see this with people all the time when their schedule changes and they can no longer make it to The Club the 4x/week they were accustomed to. Instead of switching to 2x/week and a home workout for a while, they just quit. If it’s not perfect they won’t do it.
Because they have a week’s vacation or a couple of business trips within that 6-week span they don’t sign up. They’re waiting for their schedule to match up perfectly with ours.
Guess what?
It’s probably not going to happen.
Something is always going to come up.
Besides, a big part of achieving and MAINTAINING a successful body transformation is navigating the imperfections…because there are going to be a lot of them.
Also, another lesson here is that weight loss and body transformations are NOT linear. It usually happens more like this (a real client example of someone losing over 20 pounds):
By the way, that’s a perfect example for just about every successful business I’ve seen (just flip the lines to go up from the lower left to the upper right).
