Last year, a good friend of mine picked up a 5 lb. box of organic blueberries for me from Little Hill Berry Farm in Northfield, MN. Each year I get this HUGE box of glorious blueberries and freeze most of them to have for smoothies or recipes throughout the year. These are seriously the BEST berries!!!
Blueberries have so many health benefits…below are just a few.
- Virtually every body system is shown to have strengthened antioxidant status following the consumption of blueberries.
- Studies show that repeated blueberry consumption can help to reduce total cholesterol, raise HDL cholesterol, and decrease triglycerides.
- Consuming blueberries can lower the risk of oxidation stress in our nerve cells, and therefore improve cognitive function.
- Blueberries have a positive impact on blood sugar regulation.
This weekend I will be cleaning and freezing the berries as well as making some grain free baked goods with blueberries to freeze for later consumption.
Since blueberries are in season right now, I want to share with you some of my favorite recipes containing blueberries that you can make.
